Libraries

I love my library. On Saturday I picked up two great books: Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld and Foods that Fight Cancer by Richard Believeau. I'm so excited about the food purees. Thank you Mrs Mittens for telling me about this latest kid approach. I added some acorn squash to pancakes and the girls ate them. WOWWOWOWOWOW it is definetly the first time squash has passed between the lips of my girls. I added my own touch too with a couple of tablespoons of ground almonds. I went shopping by myself late yesterday and really stocked up. I'm very excited!

The other book I heard about on CBC this past week. It is along the same lines of things I've read before but nevertheless interesting. He's saying that we all have pre-cancerous tumors and that what we eat can be very effective at stopping their growth. By the time one actually has cancer it is a whole different story. So a very positive view of prevention. Eat: cabbage (esp broccoli and brussell sprouts), soy, green tea (esp Japanese brewed for 8 minutes), citrus, chocolate, red wine, tomatoes, berries, omega 3, garlic and onions, and tumeric (with pepper). And I don't know if you heard this on the news but that taking a daily vitamin can increase your risk of cancer!

And on the eating front after one very long day of cutting Z off as soon as she threw her food on the floor and only allowing set snack times - Z is doing so well! We had about 3 days of huge power struggles which had me so stressed out and Z too struggling over diapers and food and pants and shoes and.... Only one cup of water thrown to the floor yesterday and a brief struggle as we were leaving for church to get pants on.

Congrats on your progress with Z! Some days I feel like everything is such a struggle. It's exhausting.

I think it's cool that we're interested in the same kind of food things right now. Keep us posted on what you're doing.
I'm feeling jazzed about more veggies too. Although I'm having some conflict between my food processor and my ice cream maker right now!
Veggie ice cream?? (ick)

You're both inspiring to eat more colorful food! I have two lovely pumpkins that are to become pumpkin vegetable stew...not pie as my husband requested, like really...has he seen my behind? Pie is not an option.
